Ask for quantified, specific experience, not general reassurances. "Are you experienced with gas fireplaces?" gets a yes from almost anyone. Instead, try these:

  • "How many Valor fireplace inserts have you installed in the past 12 months?"
  • "Can you walk me through the venting clearances for a Valor single-wall flue?" If they need to flip through a manual to answer, that's a red flag.
  • "Can you show me a roof-plus-fireplace integration project you completed this year?"
